Fresh Talent at PFW’s Emerging Designer Competition

Phase one of CATAPULT, Portland Fashion Week’s emerging designer competition, took place yesterday, August 22, 2010,  in Portland’s Pearl District. Nine designers showed up for the chance to move on and become a finalist and get the opportunity to present their Spring/Summer 2011 Collections on October 7, 2010 at Portland Fashion Week. The winner will receive a prize package that will help “catapult” them on their way,  which includes marketing consultation with a PR firm, graphic design and photography for a lookbook, production run to help start producing their brand, and an all inclusive collection show at Portland Fashion Week 2011.

Seth Aaron on KOIN 6

Seth Aaron

Seth Aaron’s interview on KOIN 6 (click here to watch) was quick and informative. They discussed how Portland is a hotbed for designers - and that we’re taking over all industries (interior design and fashion) these days.

CATAPULT (which is an open call audition for Portland’s emerging designers) was also brought up. Seth Aaron will be on the judges panel for CATAPULT and he says “for all to try out, because there’s nothing to lose!” Winners will be announced during fashion week.

He also gave us some insight to his line that will be shown exclusively at Portland Fashion Week. The theme is Solar World (the company backing Portland Fashion Week) and he had a chance to tour their facilities. He was blown away and completely impressed by the tour, and left feeling “incredibly inspired.”

He said we should look for his line not to be literal, but containing graphic elements and his interpretation of a Solar World. “It’ll be new and fresh and injecting the point of view of a solar world, but nothing like you’ve seen before.” His main goal is to raise awareness of being “solar” which coincides with all of Portland Fashion Week’s goals.

We can’t wait to see his show. Seth Aaron’s runway show is on October 9th, you can purchase tickets here.

PFW seeks many ways to “Catapult” emerging designers

Because it has been so successful in the past, PFW is asking emerging designers to show off what they’ve got in front of a panel of judges including industry buyers, store owners, and Project Runway Season 7 winner, Seth Aaron. This is an open call to anyone who is interested. It’s an opportunity to get free exposure for designers in front of some very influential people

“We’ve built a history of accommodating up & coming talent during economically-strapped phases of their business development, and have been elated to see talent on the PFW runway go on to reach extraordinary heights,” says PFW’s Chris Cone. “This year,” PFW Executive Producer Tito Chowdhury elaborates, “”Catapult” will continue the tradition in a juried show & competition, making emerging designer collections accessible to press, public, wholesale and  retail buyers and consumers.”
