Isaac Hers Goldstruck Fashion Show

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the Isaac Hers Fall 2011 Collection presentation at the Portland Design Collective. I went away with two things from that show; first it was very refreshing to see such a well produced solo show from a local and independent designer, and two the whole collection was outstanding and I could easily see the models walk straight from the runway to the street because everything was so effortless and wearable.

The title of the collection is “Goldstruck” and it is inspired by the Oregon high desert. While there was some gold in the collection (including gold glitter under the model’s eyes which had an ethereal yet haunting effect and a gold fitted bomber jacket that might just well be the Fall staple every girl will want) there were many other colors in the collection color palette that were right on theme. Blacks, grays, blues, and reds were mixed in with plaids in a array of different fabrications and styles. This collection also included the signature color blocked stylelines and chevrons we have seen in previous collections along with asymmetrical and flowing silhouettes. Models somberly walking down the runway with clouds and scenes of the Oregon high desert projected behind them with blues music playing tied the show and theme together and made for a night and collection I will not soon be forgetting.

Oregon High Desert Inspires Isaac Hers Fall 2011 Collection

Isaac Hers designer Barbara Seipp has been very busy. Not only has she been working on opening her new Downtown Portland store, Isaac Hers, (formerly Phlox), she has also been working on her Fall 2011 collection. Dealing with either of those things on their own is enough to make most people pull their hair out, but somehow Seipp has managed to do both simultaneously, and all of that hard work is about to pay off in a big way.

On May 21st Isaac Hers will be premiering it’s Fall 2011 Collection, “Goldstruck,” in a fashion show where pieces from the current Spring collection that were seen on the Portland Fashion Week runway last October will also be shown. Seipp drew from the Oregon high desert for her inspiration for the Fall 2011 collection:

“Its natural beauty and serenity have been a great source of relaxation and spiritual connectedness for Barbara, as she spends a lot of time there with her family. The Fall 2011 collection combines the colors, beauty, and essence of the high desert to create a feeling and connection to this rural culture and its history.”

The show will take place at the Portland Design Collective and we can’t wait to see what Isaac Hers has in store for us.

When I went by Phlox last week to snap a couple of photos of the beautiful clothes in the boutique’s window, I ran into Barbara Seipp, owner of Phlox and designer of Isaac Hers. I’ve got to say I was a little surprised to see her coming out of the shop as it was late in the evening… but that just goes to show you… owning and operating one of the most chic boutiques in Portland requires uber-dedication and crazy-long hours.  The fashion junkies in PDX, which I am surely one of, are undoubtedly grateful.  While talking with Seipp in front of her shop located on N. Mississippi she informed me that there are some huge changes coming for Phlox in the not so distant future.  Be sure to keep your eyes open and an ear to the ground for the next little bit to find out what I’m talking about.  For now, I’ll leave you with these great window shots, and also a link to the most recent Phlox Boutique reality webisode.  I am completely addicted to these, there are ten in total and they walk you through the life of Barbara Seipp: Boutique owner and Fashion Designer.  So here it is, Isaac Hers on the Runway & Backstage at Portland Fashion Week 2010.   While you’re watching, keep an eye out for yours truly and other PFW staffers!

Suzabelle, Stephanie D. Couture & Isaac Hers (Friday Oct. 8th, 2010)

I still remember the goose bumps I felt when I saw Suzabelle’s collection back at Portland Fashion Week 2009. It was a collection of charming silhouettes ample with fedoras, black & white stripes and a plethora of elegance that has since enhanced. Last night, my eyes fell in love all over again with 20 different looks by Suzabelle. There was still that sweet innocence to the clothes that I appreciated last year conclusive of thoughtful, personalized details. Canadian designer Suzanne Jaberg who founded Suzabelle in 2005 has continued be innovative with her design. All of the pieces looked complete and well constructed.

I was taken aback by Stephanie Dong’s Couture collection. There were certainly those in the audience who had high expectations for Stephanie’s collection, including myself and my expectations were blown out of the water. A one of a kind line of dresses that had 3 dimensional texture reminded me that Portland really has some talented designers who aren’t afraid to experiment. I sensed a little bit of Grecian goddess in some of the dresses. It was easy to love the flower prints and picturesque draping as well.

Designs by Isaac Hers (founded by Portland based designer Barbard Seipp in Spring 2008) are edgy and playful yet easy to wear, mixing both vintage and modern inspirations. In my book, there is nothing better than simple pieces designed with the incentive to inspire women through fashion. The flattering structure, asymmetry, zippers and opaque tops implied a touch of vintage with an underlying a modern “girl next door” theme. Isaac Hers’ collection was cohesive and fine-tuned. Dang, am I proud of my city.
