Featured PFW 2011 Designer: Jay Nicolas Sario

Jay Nicolas Sario is returning to Portland Fashion Week with a collection of androgynous, edgy and sexy clothes.  This season, he drew inspiration from military using twill, and interesting washes of unauthentic denim.  The collection shows his discipline in terms of craft, but his Spring 2012 line is a juxtaposition of tailored and raw edged.

Jay Nicolas Sario will debut his Spring 2012 collection at Portland Fashion Week on Saturday, October 8 alongside fellow Project Runway alum, Michael Costello and Bryce Black.

Jay Nicolas Sario (Saturday Oct. 9, 2010)

Jay Nicolas Sario presented a magnificent elaboration on his line created for Project Runway, inspired by the Samari. The concept execution was spot-on… undeniably present without being bombastic. High collars on denim coats, plenty of hardware embellishment, and expertly structured garments were paired with lengthy flowing dresses, all-but-see-thru shorts, and plunging necklines in an epic style amalgamation.

When I mentioned to Sario that I was hoping to see those super fun, super huge epaulettes this evening he told me that they are one of his favorite pieces as well, they just didn’t make it into the evening’s show. The lack of epaulettes was made up for by one of the best accessories I’ve seen in a long time. I don’t know if it’s a scarf or a necklace but I do know I want… ahem… need one.

From San Francisco via Project Runway - Jay Nicolas Sario

San Francisco based designer, Jay Nicolas Sario is bringing his collection to Portland Fashion Week.  Who’s excited?  We are!  You should be too.

Flowing sheers accented with moments of structural intensity work in perfect congruency to create Sario’s remarkable line.  Visual interest is found, and then echoed, in stitch lines, piping, necklines, and pocket detailing.

Many of the extreme shoulder treatments used in Sario’s clothing, give his line a futuristic feel that excites me.  These epaulettes, for example…

I can only hope we get to see something reminiscent of them when Jay Sario presents his line on Saturday, October 9th.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
