For the Love of Fashion: Popina this Valentine’s day.
So I bet you’re assuming that I’m about to tell you that the best gift your mate can give you this Valentine’s Day is a Popina Swimsuit. Well that is obviously not the right answer. The best gift that special someone can get you for this year’s big V-day is a two week stay in the coral islands of the Maldives Republic. Which, by the way, I just checked the weather for Monday and although they list no high (or low) temperature, they do assure us it will be “Mostly Fine”. Ah, the good life. Anyhow, I digress. During your stay in this, or any other, archipelago it is very necessary that you have a Popina swimsuit with you. As if Popina’s uber-flattering, retro suits weren’t enough of a reason to shop with them, I was elated to learn that the Popina staff works with founder and designer of the brand, Pamela Levenson, and have involvement in both the design and construction of all of the swimwear. That means they can set you up with a suit that fits your figure like no other. Now if that isn’t the (almost) best Valentine’s gift ever, I don’t know what is. Meet you at the Equator!!

Models in the 2010 Portland Fashion Week in just 9 days will walk on SolarWorld’s chic, black solar panel runway. Solarworld and Portland Fashion Week, together, are breaking new ground on sustainable development of two of the world’s biggest industries – fashion and energy.
But it doesn’t stop there!
A portion of all ticket sales will be donated to help Portland-area schools teach or install solar power systems in a partnership between Portland Fashion Week and SolarWorld USA. You can add a donation to help reach more schools and children. Solar projects on schools served by Portland General Electric will also be eligible for cash incentives from the Energy Trust of Oregon.
With everything from world-famous designers, local high-fashion luminaries, commercial, artisan & emerging talent, and un-rivaled production, we hope you’ll join us for the best Portland Fashion Week yet.

Seth Aaron on KOIN 6

Seth Aaron’s interview on KOIN 6 (click here to watch) was quick and informative. They discussed how Portland is a hotbed for designers - and that we’re taking over all industries (interior design and fashion) these days.
CATAPULT (which is an open call audition for Portland’s emerging designers) was also brought up. Seth Aaron will be on the judges panel for CATAPULT and he says “for all to try out, because there’s nothing to lose!” Winners will be announced during fashion week.
He also gave us some insight to his line that will be shown exclusively at Portland Fashion Week. The theme is Solar World (the company backing Portland Fashion Week) and he had a chance to tour their facilities. He was blown away and completely impressed by the tour, and left feeling “incredibly inspired.”
He said we should look for his line not to be literal, but containing graphic elements and his interpretation of a Solar World. “It’ll be new and fresh and injecting the point of view of a solar world, but nothing like you’ve seen before.” His main goal is to raise awareness of being “solar” which coincides with all of Portland Fashion Week’s goals.
We can’t wait to see his show. Seth Aaron’s runway show is on October 9th, you can purchase tickets here.
